Srinagar: A top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander was among four terrorists killed on Monday after a landmine exploded as they attempted to infiltrate the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.
The terrorists were identified as Muhammad Ishtiaq, Muhammad Waqas, Muhammad Asim and senior LeT commander Muhammad Faizan. They were residents of Mandla and Madarpur, in Hajira tehsil, in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), officials said.
The powerful blast, caused by an improvised explosive device (IED), shook a forward village along the LoC in Satwal-Naki area of the Krishna Ghati sector. A group of people was trying to cross the LoC from the Pakistan side, according to officials.
Satwal-Naki is considered to be a favoured route for infiltrators. Seven members of Pakistan’s BAT team were killed in a similar manner in this area in the past.
The incident triggered heightened security measures. Security forces sounded an alert across the sector and intensified vigilance along the LoC to assess the situation and prevent any possible security breach.
