Malkangiri: Security forces busted a Maoist camp in an encounter on Malkangiri-Koraput border area and seized explosives from the spot.
Speaking to media persons, here on Thursday, Malkangiri SP Prhallad Meena said following intelligence input about the presence of a big Maoist camp on Badili hill on the border of Malkangiri and Koraput districts, SGO, DVF and BSF personnel launched a search operation in the area on Wednesday.
As the security forces approached the camp at night, the Maoists opened fire at them. The security personnel retaliated the firing and the exchange of fire continued for around two hours, the SP said.
Cornered by the security forces, the Maoists left the camp and escaped in darkness of the night. Top Andhra Pradesh cadre Maoist leader Suresh Surana, who was present in the camp, also managed to give a slip to the security forces, Meena added.
Stating that the Maoists had escaped to Andhra, he said another search operation has been launched on Odisha-Andhra border in Malkangiri district.
The security forces have seized a gun, 6 live cartridges, 4 detonators, 2 walkie-talkie, 11 Naxal kits, uniforms and posters from the camp.
