Bhubaneswar: Eminent technocrats from across the country will attend the three-day annual convention of Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) commencing at Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) Deemed to be University on December 9.
Briefing newspersons on Friday, Chairman of INAE Bhubaneswar chapter and Chairman of SOA Advisory Board Prof. Damodar Acharya said INAE is an autonomous professional body – which is partly funded by Indian government’s Department of Science and Technology – comprising the nation’s most distinguished engineers, engineer-scientists and technologists.
Fellows, foreign fellows, young associates and invitees from all engineering disciplines will attend the convention to be held at Campus-2 of SOA.
There will be plenary talks, panel discussions and presentations over the three days, Prof. Acharya said.
He further informed that two sessions of the convention will be devoted to the contribution of eminent Odia astronomer Pathani Samanta and the 9th-century craft of flexible brass fish manufacturing in Ganjam district’s Belaguntha.
Tata Steel MD TV Narendran will be chief guest at the inaugural function, which will also be attended by INAE president and Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra vice-chancellor Prof. Indranil Manna.
‘Diverse Space Applications’ a book authored by Dr BN Suresh, former INAE president and Indian Institute of Space Science & Technology, Thiruvananthapuram chancellor, will be released on the occasion.
Among prominent technocrats who will attend the convention are Prof. UB Desai, Professor Emeritus, IIT Bombay; Prof. Sivaji Chakravorti, Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, Jadavpur University; Prof. Shreepad Karmalkar, Director, IIT Bhubaneswar; Dr Ramanuj Narayan, Director, CSIR-IIMT, Bhubaneswar; Prof. AB Pandit, vice-chancellor, Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai; and Prof. PP Chakrabarti, former Director, IIT Kharagpur.
Around 40 eminent technocrats will be inducted as Fellows of INAE during the convention. They include names like Microsoft Chairman & CEO Satya Nadella, founder and chairperson of Bharti Enterprises Sunil Bharti Mittal, Co-Founder of HCL and Chairman-EPIC Foundation Ajai Chowdhry and All India Council of Technical Education chairman Prof. TG Sitharam.
The convention is being jointly organised by SOA, IIT Bhubaneswar, CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology, Bhubaneswar and Bhubaneswar chapter of INAE.
