New Delhi; Wrestlers Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia on Monday rejected media reports, claiming that they have withdrawn from the ongoing protest against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, accused of sexually harassing several female grapplers.
“The news of withdrawing the movement is just a rumour. These news are being spread to harm us. We have neither retreated nor have we withdrawn the movement. The news of women wrestlers taking back the FIR is also false. The fight will continue till justice is served,” Bajrang tweeted.
According to reports, Sakshi, Vinesh and Bajrang Punia resumed their work with the Railways on May 31, three days after being evicted from Jantar Mantar in Delhi where they had been protesting since April. May 30 also saw a high drama in Haridwar where the trio stopped short of immersing their international medals in the Ganga after Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) president Naresh Tikait intervened.
“This news is completely wrong. In the fight for justice, none of us has backed down, nor will we. Along with Satyagraha, I am fulfilling my responsibility in Railways. Our fight continues till justice is served. Please don’t spread any wrong news,” Sakshi tweeted along with a screenshot of a news report from a news channel.
Sakshi’s husband Satyawrat Kadian told the media the wrestlers’ meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday remained inconclusive as they “did not get the reaction they wanted from the Home Minister”.
So far, two FIRs have been lodged against Brij Bhushan, and he has been booked under the POCSO Act.
