Bhubaneswar: Meteorological observations from Friday morning revealed significant cloud cover across major cities in Odisha, with several key urban centres experiencing completely overcast conditions.
The data recorded at 8:30 am, measured the cloud cover using the standard meteorological unit “Okta”, a scale from 0 to 8 that quantifies how many eighths of the sky are covered by clouds (where 8 Oktas represents a completely overcast sky and 0 indicates a perfectly clear sky).
According to senior meteorologist Umasankar Das, coastal and capital regions are under total cloud cover, while western and northern districts are seeing slightly broken but heavily clouded skies.
The maximum reading of 8 Oktas in Bhubaneswar, Chandbali, Puri, and Paradip indicates that 100% of the sky is obscured by clouds, signalling a high probability of sustained rains or twilight-like conditions throughout the morning. Meanwhile, Gopalpur reported the clearest sky in the state at 5 Oktas, meaning roughly 62% of its sky is cloud-covered.
People across most parts of the state can expect cool daytime temperatures but limited sunlight as this dense cloud wall moves through the region.
This has come amid India Meteorological Department’s forecast on possible formation of a low pressure , the first this monsoon season, around June 24-25over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha coast.
