New Delhi: The two automobile giants, Toyota Motor Corporation and Suzuki Motor Corporation, have decided to co-develop new projects related to tech and market development and production of vehicles in India.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor Private Ltd (TKM) is looking to sell vehicles developed by Suzuki for sale in India, Africa and other markets. There are talks between Denso Corporation and Toyota to give Suzuki the tech support required to develop compact and ultra-efficient power trains. These cars are expected to be available through both brands’ networks.
Both companies have been trying to come to terms to co-develop electric and hybrid car tech for India for over the last one year.
As reported in NDTV Auto, Toyota President, Akio Toyoda said, “Suzuki was the first (among Japanese companies) to enter India, and, together with the people of India, has been a presence for pulling forward India’s automotive society. As members of Indian society, Toyota, along with Suzuki, will do its best to enhance freedom and fun in a future society of mobility and to make “Make in India” vehicles cherished in Africa and in many other countries around the world. Through our business partnership with Suzuki, I would like to learn more about this spirit.”
Suzuki Chairman Osamu Suzuki said, “At the time we announced the partnership, I said: ‘Under the leadership of President Akio Toyoda, Toyota was enthusiastic throughout our discussions regarding partnership sought by Suzuki, which was concerned about the development of advanced technologies. I want to express my heartfelt appreciation. Immediately afterwards, Toyota arranged a series of intensive and meaningful discussions. Now, we will receive support for the development of a compact, ultrahigh-efficiency powertrain that is vital to Suzuki, and we will focus our utmost efforts on development. It is my hope that the new joint projects will contribute to the future success of both companies, not only in India, but also in the global market”.
Earlier, there have been reports that Maruti Suzuki would supply 50000 units of its compact SUV, the Breeza to Toyota and the later would give Maruti 10000 units of its popular D-segment sedan, the Corolla. Both brands are expected to cross-badge the products along with a few cosmetic changes and sell them from their respective outlets.
