TPCODL Busts Meter-Tampering Racket In Cuttack’s Athagarh

Cuttack: Tata Power Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL) recently busted an electricity meter tampering racket in Cuttack district.

The main suspect, arrested by Athagarh Police on February 2, is in police custody.

A toolkit, used for meter tampering, has been recovered. Consumers were being charged a significant amount for every case of meter tampering.

All cases of meter being tampered are being inspected as part of a thorough investigation as police look to identify and nab the other team members so that appropriate action can be taken.

Electricity theft is a criminal offence under Section 135 of the Electricity Act, 2003 that impacts the reliability besides being a safety risk.

Special teams have been deployed to detect, eliminate and initiate legal actions against power theft.
