TPCODL Draws Up Disaster Management Plan For Flood-Hit Areas In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: In view of the Special Relief Commissioner’s (SRC) report on low to medium range flood in the Mahanandi river system, TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL) has drawn up a Business Continuity and Disaster Management Plan (BCDMP) to deal with it.

The TPCODL has identified the areas which are expected to be impacted by the severe floods. Under this, a structured approach has been prepared for preventive measures, disaster management and arranging required material/machinery in case of exigency.

The BCDMP entails categories of disasters based on the severity along with an action plan, a disaster management structure to receive alerts for disasters and examine those. A mock drill for checking the response of the plan is also being conducted.

The power distribution company has also formed dedicated teams to ensure 24×7 power supply to oxygen plants and deputed quick response teams at strategically locations. One can call its toll free number 1912 or 18003457122 for any emergency service.

As a safety measure, TPCODL requested everyone in the affected areas not to do the following:

  • Do not touch any wires or plumbing inside a building during lightning strikes as telephone lines/metal pipes can conduct electricity
  • Do not take shelter beneath tree/any temporary structure in case of heavy wind, thunderstorm and downpour
  • Do not touch any electrical installations with wet hands or without using hand gloves, safety shoes or insulated platform
  • Do not allow children to play near storm drains after rainfall

Speaking on the initiative M Shenbagam, CEO, TPCODL said, “We are well prepared to mitigate the risk of flood and are committed towards ensuring uninterrupted power supply. Our team is working relentlessly to provide uninterrupted power supply to the affected areas within record time and ensure that customers are least affected.”
