Berhampur: Addressing the long-standing demand, TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) has commissioned a new Primary Substation (PSS) at Chacha Panchayat under Jharigaon Block of Nabarangpur district. The project has been undertaken to strengthen the power distribution infrastructure in the region.
The newly constructed 33/11kV substation is equipped with two 5 MVA transformers. It was inaugurated by Nabarangpur MP Balabhadra Majhi in the presence of senior officials, public representatives, and local residents.
The commissioning of the Chacha PSS will significantly improve the electricity distribution scenario across Jharigaon Block. More than 7,000 consumers, including domestic users, commercial establishments, and the farming community, will benefit from the project. Several Panchayats and nearby villages, including Chacha, Phupugaon, Palia, Chikili, Badatemara, Sanatemara, Thatabeda, Kangara, and Chakalapadara, will now receive more reliable and quality power supply with improved voltage stability and reduced interruptions.
Earlier, electricity supply to these areas was being maintained through long 11 KV lines extending from the Jharigaon Primary Substation. The feeder lengths covered nearly 250 kilometres under a single distribution netw
ork. Due to the long line length, consumers frequently experienced low-voltage issues and delays in restoration during faults and weather disturbances.
With the commissioning of the new Chacha PSS, the existing network has now been divided into four dedicated 11 KV feeders — Ichhapur, Palia, Badatemara, and Chacha. This will enable improved load management, a better voltage profile, reliable supply, and faster restoration of power during disruptions, particularly during Kalbaisakhi storms and adverse weather conditions.
The new 33 KV line supplying power to the Chacha PSS has been extended from the Jharigaon Primary Substation. This has created a stronger and more efficient network for rural consumers. The infrastructure upgrade is expected to support the growing needs of the region as Nabarangpur steadily emerges as an important agricultural belt and developing business corridor in Southern Odisha.
Improved electricity infrastructure will play a crucial role in enhancing irrigation, supporting small businesses, boosting local economic activities, and enhancing the quality of life for residents in the area.
Speaking on the occasion, Amit Kumar Garg, CEO, TPSODL, said, “The commissioning of the Chacha Primary Substation marks an important step in strengthening the rural power infrastructure of Nabarangpur district. By reducing feeder lengths and creating dedicated distribution lines, we are ensuring better voltage quality, reliable power supply, and faster restoration services for consumers. TPSODL remains committed to delivering dependable and quality electricity to every consumer while supporting the region’s agricultural and economic growth.”
