Bhubaneswar: In order to ease traffic congestion in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the Commissionerate Police has imposed restrictions on movement of goods vehicles in the two cities in evening.
An order, issued by Commissioner of Police Saumendra Kumar Priyadarshi on Monday, stated that goods carriers including six-wheeler trucks and trailers will be allowed to ply within the city limits of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack for 2 and a half hours in the evening.
These vehicles coming from Pitapalli towards Bhubaneswar and Manguli towards Cuttack will not be allowed to enter the cities from 5 pm to 7.30 pm from September 5, the order stated.
However, the goods carriers engaged in essential and emergency services are exempted from the restriction. But those vehicles have to obtain a certificate of exemption from the office of Police Commissionerate.
It may be noted that the National Highways and State Highways running through the twin cities witness heavy congestion of vehicular traffic in the evening. With festive season ahead, the Police Commissionerate expected worsening of the situation and came up with the restrictions.
