Bhubaneswar: Tension ran high near AG square after a woman traffic constable allegedly slapped the daughter of Additional Director General (ADG) Pranabindu Acharya.
The incident occurred when the wife and daughter of the ADG were crossing the traffic signal in a red car. In a statement, she admitted to have parked her vehicle ‘a bit ahead of the zebra crossing’ as vehicles behind her were urging her to give them space for the ‘u-turn’. When she moved her car a bit ahead, the woman traffic constable approached the vehicle and slapped her.
She then returned and asked the constable to apologize to her, stating that she had not committed a serious offence.
Though no written complaint has been lodged, she has asked top police officers to look into the matter and also demanded an apology from the traffic cop, sources said.
On the other hand, the traffic constable said that she was doing her duty and the girl had violated traffic rules, the sources added.
Responding to media queries, DCP Anup Kumar Sahoo said CCTV footage from the area will be analysed.
