Nabarangpur: Palpable tension prevailed on Nabarangpur-Raipur road as villagers put up a road blockade after a truck ran over a child on Saturday.
As per reports, the mishap took place when the five-year-old boy, identified as Gourav Kumar, along with his parents from Chhattisgarh was crossing the road near Deobharandi village under Raighar block in the district in the morning.
A goods-laden truck going in high speed ran over Gourav, killing him on the spot, and sped away. Following the mishap, irate villagers put up a road blockade demanding compensation to the parents of the deceased child.
Due to the road blockade, vehicular movement was pralysed for several hours. Since it is a busy road used by commercial vehicles, hundreds of trucks, buses and other vehicles were stranded on both sides of the blockade.
Later, a team from Raighar police station went to the spot and pacified the agitated villagers. After they assured the villagers of taking up their demand with authorities concerned, the blockade was withdrawn.
