Bhubaneswar: Regional Transport Office (RTO) staff and police have collected fines amounting to Rs 1.06 crore from violators of traffic rules across Odisha since Sunday, sources in the Commerce and Transport Department said on Monday.
According to the sources, 126 persons were penalised for tripple riding on bikes, 48 persons for talking on their mobile phones while driving, 10 persons for driving on the wrong route, 1,831 people for riding without helmets, 24 for drunken driving, 349 for not wearing seat belts and 277 persons for speeding.
Out of Rs 1.06 crore fine collected, the RTO staff have collected Rs 88 lakh fine from 1758 people while police have collected Rs 18 lakh from 2,112 traffic rule violators.
Notably, the state government had announced strict implementation of the new traffic rules from March 1.
