Nabarangpur: Two women died and three others were critically injured after a car collided head-on with a trailer truck on a national highway near Jhitikiguda under Papadahandi block in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district in the early hours of Sunday.
The deceased – Usha Rani and Soumya – were members of a family from Andhra Pradesh, which was returning from Puri and
heading to their in-laws’ house in Nabarangpur.
According to sources, the car, carrying two women, two men, and a 6-year-old child, slammed into an oncoming trailer truck en route to Kalahandi. The impact severely damaged the car, trapping the occupants inside. Police and fire services personnel immediately reached the spot on getting information and pulled out all five individuals from the wreckage. They were rushed to Papadahandi Community Health Centre, where doctors declared the two women dead. The remaining three passengers — two men and the child — were reported to be in critical condition and shifted to the district headquarters Hospital in Nabarangpur for further treatment.
Police have initiated an investigation into the cause of the crash.
