Jajpur: A 15-year-old girl died and her parents were critically injured after the car in which they were travelling plunged off a bridge on National Highway-16 near Khanditar under Kuakhia police limits in Odisha’s Jajpur district.
The deceased has been identified as Srestha Mukherjee, a resident of Ghasipura in Keonjhar district. Her fath
er, Dinadayal Mukherjee, and her mother Shampa were rushed to Jajpur district headquarters hospital, where their condition is stated to be critical.
According to police, the accident took around 2 pm on Thursday as the family was returning home from Bhubaneswar and the driver lost control over the vehicle. The car dashed against the divider and fell off the bridge from around a height of 20 feet. Srestha died on the spot, while her parents suffered grievous injuries.
Locals, along with personnel from Kuakhia police and fire services, rescued the injured couple and shifted them for immediate medical treatment. The girl’s body was also recovered and sent for postmortem examination.
Police have seized the vehicle and registered a case.
