Bhubaneswar: Due to incessant heavy rainll, water accumulated over the railway track between Tikiri and Rauli stations under the Rayagada–Koraput section of East Coast Railway (ECoR) in Odisha on Monday.
ECoR said in a statement that the water has now completely receded at Tikiri, and train movement has commenced.
Following continuous monitoring by railway officials and engineering staff, train services have been normalised, with rail traffic resuming safely in the section. Passenger safety remained the highest priority throughout the operation.
Notably, rainwater had inundated a section of the railway track near Tikiri station, forcing the Koraput-Visakhapatnam passenger train to halt for around two hours.
According to sources, around two feet of water accumulated on the railway track due to heavy rainfall since morning. Runoff from nearby hills, along with overflowing water from a drain adjacent to the track, led to waterlogging on the track, making train movement unsafe.
The Koraput-Visakhapatnam train, which was scheduled to reach Rayagada around noon, got stranded at Tikiri station since about 10 am. Hundreds of passengers remained stuck inside the train. The train later resumed its journey after the water receded.
