Bhubaneswar: Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena on Friday issued strict warning against misuse of Odisha’s EV subsidy scheme.
“There have been reports about EV vehicles being shifted to Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh after being brought here using temporary or fake addresses to avail the subsidy. The department has ordered for a thorough check of the permanent addresses to put a stop to this practice. Only genuine permanent residents of the state will get the benefits,” he said.
According to Odisha Electric Vehicle Policy-2021, two-wheeler owners are getting a subsidy up to Rs 20,000 and three-wheelers a flat Rs 30,000. Four-wheeler owners get a subsidy up to Rs 1.5 lakh, while it is Rs 3 lakh and 4 lakh for AC bus and AC deluxe bus respectively. This is for a period up to 2025.
The state government is also contemplating to formulate a new policy with a focus on infrastructure and incentives to both sellers and buyers for promoting faster adoption of EVs in the state. Lack of a robust and widely available charging network has in the past affected sales of EVs in the state despite the subsidy.
