Berhampur: The locals have expressed their resentment over cleaning of the vehicles used for transporting garbage in a pond here.
‘Beda Bandha’, a pond near Nilakantheswar temple in the city, is used by hundreds of locals and ‘Danduas’ (who participate in Danda Nata) for taking bath daily. The transporters are also washing and cleaning their vehicles carrying garbage from the wards under the Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) in the same pond.
Some locals alleged that though they opposed it, the garbage vehicle operators have remained defiant and continued to pollute the water of the pond.
Drawing the attention of the BeMC, they said if the transporters are not dissuaded, another clean pond in the city will turn into a polluted water body unfit for human use.
