This young homeopathy doctor has taken upon himself the task of treating as many Thalassemia patients as possible. Dr. Biswashree Gyanranjan Nayak, a young and dynamic Homeopathy physician is the only son of Santosh Kumar and Haripriya Nayak from a small village of Mayurbhanj, Odisha.

Dr Biswashree did his Bachelors in Alternative Medicines from Kolkata and B.H.M.S from Dr Abhin Chandra Homeopathic Medical College & Hospital, Bhubaneswar. After dual bachelor degrees in medical sciences, he continued his own private clinic in Bhubaneswar. This is when he came across not one but many people, especially children from the poor community, suffering from Thalassemia and was moved by their plight.

The young doctors studied and researched in his field to give them relief. He floated ‘Project Umeed’ to provide free treatment to children suffering from Thalassemia. He is also a co-founder of a registered Trust, Salaam Jeevan that works in the health sector in particular. Project Umeed comes under the umbrella of the latter.

So far, the spirited doctors has 150 patients who are regularly given free medical consultation with homeopathic medicines for Thalassemia. This treatment helps the poor patients by increasing the gap of blood transfusion and also helps in taking care of associated complaints like irritation, bloated abdomen, anemia, swelling, loss of appetite, general weakness and dizziness. Needless to say that the parents of these children don’t tire of giving their blessings to Dr. Biswasree.

“Thalassemia needs more preventive action to fight. We are championing the cause of awareness on Thalassemia. We are making young people aware of going in for pathological blood test before marriage, so that they can decide about their marriage and issues,” said Dr Biswasree.

For this, he organises awareness programmes in educational campuses. Dr. Biswasree has also published a booklet describing the reasons and other matters related to Thalassemia. His frequent free homeopathic health check up camps help go a long way in alleviating the sufferings of people in urban poor slums of Bhubaneswar. He also responds to disaster situations with medical aid in various parts of the state and is involved in public awareness campaigns on preventive health in educational institutions on Thalassemia, Cancer, T.B, Malaria, Diabetes etc. He dreams of making public health a reality in the country.

He has been conferred the ‘Swami Vivekananda Youth Award, 2020.’
