Kendrapara: An under trial prisoner (UTP) escaped from a sub jail at Kendrapara in the late evening on Saturday.
According to jail sources, the UTP, Rangadhar Biswal of Mirzapur village under Nikirai police station limits of Kendrapara district was arrested by the police in 2014 in connection with a murder case in 2012.
He was later lodged in the Sub Jail in Kendrapara.
However, he managed to escape the jail after scaling the boundary wall with a towel and lungi he was wearing and jumped on the other side of the boundary wall in the evening.
Following information, Kendrapara SP Dayanidhi Gochhayat and Superintendent of Choudwar Circle Jail rushed to the jail in the night for an on-the-spot investigation.
On Sunday, IG (Prison) Manoranjan Patnaik and Additional DG (Prison) Binayananda Jha went to the Sub Jail for investigation.
Besides, a sniffer dog has been pressed into service to trace the escape route of the UTP while police is examining the CCTV footage installed inside the jail premises to get the details of the escape.
The Town Police has begun a manhunt to nab the UTP.
Till reports last came in, the Superintendent of Choudwar Circle Jail has placed two warders Nikunja Mohanty and Ramakanta Mohanty of the Sub Jail for dereliction of their duty.
