Rayagada: A tribal outfit has called for a 12-hour bandh in Odisha’s Rayagada district on January 5 in protest against police failure in apprehending the accused in the murder of a girl 10 days back.
Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, convenor of Zilla Adivasi Mahasangh (district tribal association) Ullak said though physically challenged tribal girl Laxmi Majhi was murdered and her half-charred body was found on the premises of Chandrapur hospital on December 21 night, the police have failed to make any headway in the case.
“Laxmi was a hard working and honest girl. She was working as a warden at the Maa House in the hospital for the last five years. After her body was found, her father had filed an FIR at Chandrapur police station on December 22,” Ullak said.
He said as a mark of protest against failure of police in giving justice to the family of the deceased girl, his association will enforce Rayagada district bandh from 6 am to 6 pm on January 5.
Meanwhile, a Crime Branch team led by DSP Narendra Behera has started investigation into the case. The team visited the hospital and reportedly questioned four of her colleagues. The CB team also questioned her neighbours and relatives, sources said.
