Tribal Uprising In Odisha Against The British To Find Place In Gujarat Museum

New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Renuka Singh Saruta on Monday informed Parliament that the history of the tribal movement in Odisha will find place in the proposed Tribal Museum in Gujarat.

Replying to a question of Odisha Congress MP Saptagiri Ulaka, she said that the proposed museum will showcase the revolt (1839-62) against the British led by Veer Surendra Sai and the tribal uprising in Koraput (1942-43), Ganjam (1800-1805), Ghumusar (1808-37), the present G Udayagiri in Kandhamal district, and the Khond Revolt (1846-55).

Apart from this, it will also have memorials of prominent tribal leaders of Odisha, the Union Minister added.

The proposed tribal museum will be set up at Rajpipla town in the tribal-dominated Narmada district of Gujarat at a cost of Rs 100 crore.

The 70-acre museum, having 3D and 7D technology-enabled display, will be completed by 2020 and dedicated to tribal movements in the country that took place during the pre-1857, 1857 to the end of the 19th century and 20th century up to the Independence.
