Malkangiri: A tribal woman was allegedly thrashed and raped by some unidentified assailants inside a police canteen at Tekabada village in Malkangiri district.
The woman was later taken to a Malkangiri hospital in a critical condition on May 7.
On May 9, MaaGhara Foundation, a social organisation, accompanied the victim’s husband to lodge an FIR.
MaaGhara president Rutuparna Mohanty on Monday accused police of not taking action to arrest the culprits and also alleged that the victim was suffering from medical negligence.
“The victim, who was working in a police canteen, was raped and injured badly. She was admitted to Malkangiri hospital on May 7. However, for the past 2-3 days, she was not getting proper treatment. Also, police have taken any action against anyone yet. When it came to the notice of our organization, we accompanied her husband for lodging the FIR,” she said.
“The victim was shifted to a Koraput hospital yesterday (Sunday) after police officials were asked to do so,” she added.
Mohanty questioned as how the Malkangiri Collector and top police officials were not aware about the matter even though the victims has been suffering for four days.
When contacted, Malkangiri SP Rishikesh Khilari said, “The victim is undergoing treatment for other health related issues. But since an FIR against rape has been lodged, we are investigating into the matter.”
