Bhubaneswar: Here are some heart-warming reports from Ukraine, where Russia has intensified the attack.

The Tricolour has not only helped Indian students, stranded in Ukraine, but also those from Pakistan and Turkey to flee the war-ravaged country. The Indian students, who arrived in the city of Bucharest in Romania from Ukraine, told news agency ANI that the national flag helped them as well as some Pakistani and Turkish students in safely crossing the various checkpoints in the war-torn country.

They were easily given clearance due to the Indian flag, which they had made using a curtain and colour spray. “We were told in Ukraine that being Indians and carrying Indian flag, we won’t have any problems,” said a medical student who arrived from Odesa in Southern Ukraine.

The Union Minister, G. Kishan Reddy, had earlier asked Indian students to fly the national flag on their vehicles to ensure a safe departure.

Hours later, a video started doing the round on social media on Wednesday, claiming that Pakistan Embassy is helping Indian students reach the Romanian border and also providing them food.

However, a video from Kharkiv, where four people were reportedly killed and nine were injured in Wednesday’s shelling, showed the stranded Indian students struggling to get onto trains to escape the war-torn country.

This raises concern as an Indian student Naveen was killed in shelling while he was out to buy groceries the previous day.

Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov announced that Russia will investigate the killing of the Indian national. “We are in touch with Indian authorities for Indians stranded in Kharkiv, and other areas of eastern Ukraine. We have received India’s requests for emergency evacuation of all those stuck there via Russian territory,” he said.
