Triple Train Accident: 160 Unidentified Bodies To Be Kept In Morgues In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Even as the toll in triple train accident near Bahanaga station in Odisha’s Balasore district went up to 188, the state government has decided to bring unidentified bodies to Bhubaneswar.

Speaking to media persons on Saturday evening, Chief Secretary PK Jena said the bodies of 160 persons were yet to be identified. “Due to lack of storage facilities in Balasore for reservation of the bodies till their identification and port-mortem, those would be brought to different hospital having morgue facilities in Bhubaneswar,” he said.

So far, 30-40 bodies have been identified and handed over to their families, he added. “After the unidentifed bodies are brought to Bhubaneswar, the inquest of the bodies would be conducted. Autopsy would be performed on the bodies which would be identified by family members and then handed over to them,” Jena said.

“The injured persons, who have been attended to and found fit by the doctors, have been allowed to go home. Total 1175 passengers injured in the accident were admitted to different hospitals. Of them, 793 patients have been discharged,” the chief secretary said.
