Kolkata: The Special Task Force (STF) in Bengal seized around 1,000 kg of explosives from a truck near Tala Bridge under Chitpur police station limits of north Kolkata late on Friday.
Police said the truck was en-route from Odisha to North 24 Parganas district in Bengal.
The truck driver and helper have been arrested. They have been identified as Indrajit Bhui (25), a native of Melak village under Basta block of Balasore, and Padmolochon Dey (31), who hails from Mithani village of the same block.
The two will be produced before Bankshall court on Saturday.
Acting on reliable information, the STF intercepted the truck on the northern slope of Tala Bridge on BT Road around 12.20am. During the search, the police recovered 27 gunny bags containing 1,000 kg of explosive substances (potassium nitrate).
A detailed probe is underway, sources in the police said.
