Truck Driver ‘Commits Suicide’ After Younger Brother’s Death In Odisha’s Cuttack

Cuttack: Unable to bear the shock of his younger brother, a truck driver reportedly committed suicide in Odisha’s Cuttack district.

As per reports, the driver, identified as 54-year-old Madhusudan Jena of Chakamunda village under Narsinghpur police station in the district, resorted to the extreme step on Saturday night.

While the villagers were busy in a marriage function in his neighbouring house, Jena went to the roof of his house, cut his throat with a sharp instrument and jumped to the ground.

The villagers rushed him to the community health centre (CHC) at Narsinghpur. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. But he succumbed on the way.

On being informed, police went to the village and sent the body for post-mortem. They have registered a case of unnatural death and started investigation.

Madhusudan has a 20-year-old son who is hearing impaired and his wife passed away a month back. His younger brother Jadunath Jena, who was the only bread-earner of the family as Madhusudan was no more driving heavy vehicles, also died in an accident 15 days back, the sources said.

The villagers said following the death of Jadunath, Madhusudan had turned into depression, particularly worrying about his only son.
