Keonjhar: One person was killed and another critically injured when speeding hyva rammed into a trailer truck parked along National Highway No. 520 in Barbil area of Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Tuesday.
According to preliminary information, the mishap took place near Bhadrasahi under the jurisdiction of Barbil police station in the district when the hyva truck carrying minerals was proceeding towards Bhadrasahi.
The accident took place after a tyre of the hyva truck burst and the vehicle lost balance and dashed against a trailer parked along the highway. The hyva also hit another vehicle parked in front of the trailer truck and then overturned.
The driver of the trailer truck, who was sleeping in the parked vehicle, reportedly died on the spot, while the hyva driver got trapped inside, sources said.
On being informed, fire services personnel rushed to the site and rescued the driver of the hyva truck after cutting the mangled vehicle. He was sent to hospital for treatment.
A police team reached the spot and the body of the driver of the trailer truck was sent for postmortem. The three vehicles involved in the accident have been seized and investigation into the incident is underway, the sources added.
