Bhubaneswar: Panic gripped Badagada area in the city after a group of miscreants severely thrashed a truck driver and bystander on Thursday night.
Police said the incident happened near Chitamaniswar Chhak on Cuttack Road around 11 pm.
According to reports, the truck was going towards Kalpana Chhak when it narrowly escaped colliding with three bike-borne youths.
The youths chased the truck and detained it. They then called their friends to come to the spot. After some time, four more youths came and they all dragged out the truck driver and proceeded to beat him.
The miscreants also thrashed a youth for recording the incident on his mobile phone. The seven youths finally left after creating havoc in the area for around 30 minutes.
Badagada police have registered a case and launched a manhunt to nab the miscreants. The injured driver is undergoing treatment at Capital Hospital here.
In another incident, a 17-year-old boy suffered multiple injuries after being attacked by two criminals following an altercation on Thursday night.
According to reports, one Anant Mohanty of Patia had gone for tuition to Nayapalli when he found two youths using obscene language. Assuming that the duo was abusing him, Anant confronted them. This led to an altercation and the two attacked the boy with sharp weapons. They fled when Anant fell down on the road and screamed for help.
Locals rushed the boy to Capital Hospital with multiple injuries.
Nayapalli police have launched a manhunt to catch the two attackers. According to police, the two have several cases registered against them at various police stations in Bhubaneswar.
