Cuttack: A truck ran over an elderly cyclist and then fell off a bridge on State Highway 60 in Cuttack district on Saturday.
The cyclist, Sarat Chandra Dalei (60), was killed on the spot. The truck’s driver and helper were severely injured in the incident that took place near Niali.
According to reports, Dalei was going to a market at Kaliaghai around 6.30 am when he was hit by the vegetable-laden truck bound for Niali. After hitting the cyclist, the truck skidded off the road and fell down a bridge.
Following the accident, locals blocked the road to demand compensation for the deceased.
Police said the injured truck driver and helper were taken to a hospital.
