Kalahandi: A girl was killed after being hit by a speeding truck at Nunmatha village in Kalahandi distrcit on Friday morning.
Police said the deceased, Sasmita Sahoo, hailed from Bogada village in Kesinga police station area.
Sasmita had come to Nunmatha village with her father. The accident took place when she was crossing the road to buy biscuits even as her father stood at the roadside. She died on the spot.
The truck driver fled, leaving his vehicle behind. Police later seized the truck.
Meanwhile, hundreds of irate locals staged a blockade by placing the body of the girl on the road. They demanded compensation for the deceased’s family and action against the errant driver.
