Berhampur: Death of a woman in a road mishap brought traffic to a grinding halt near Buguda area in Ganjam district on Saturday morning.
Irate locals came out in large numbers and staged a road blockade near the accident spot demanding adequate compensation for the family of the deceased and better traffic control measures in the area.
Being informed about the incident, police rushed to the spot and pacified the agitators after assuring them that their demand will be considered.
Efforts are on to nab the truck driver, who fled the spot soon after the mishap, police sources said.
According to sources, the woman identified as Labanya Acharya was crossing the road when a speeding goods-laden truck ran over her. She died on the spot.
