Truck Set On Fire After Road Mishap In Odisha’s Balangir Town

Balangir: Tension prevailed in Odisha’s Balangir town as agitated people set fire to a truck after a road accident on Saturday.

As per reports, a youth going on a bike was hit by a speeding truck at Gandhinagarpada in the town in the afternoon. The locals immediately detained the truck and rushed the youth, who was seriously injured in the accident, to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in the town. His condition was stated to be critical.

Later, the agitated people set fire to the truck and put up a road blockade by burning tyres on Balangir-Sambalpur road. As tension mounted in the area and traffic movement on the road was affected, police went there and pacified the agitators.

On being informed, Fire service personnel also went to the spot and extinguished the fire of the burning truck.

The locals alleged that movement of heavy vehicles on the main roads going through the town was frequently causing mishaps. They demanded the authorities not to allow trucks and other goods vehicles to enter the town during the day time when vehicular traffic is high.
