New York: US President Donald Trump virtually conceded his defeat to newly-elected Joe Biden and agreed to start the transition to the Democrat’s administration. He also made simultaneous claims of emerging winner in the November 3 election.
Trump, via a Monday evening tweet, said that he was asking General Services Administration head Emily Murphy to cooperate with Biden to facilitate his transition to be the 46th President of the United States, according to news agency IANS.
The declaration came after 16 days following the media’s announcement of Biden being the winner of the election. The President though has refused to concede citing the vote-counting that is still continuing.
Murphy, however, denied that she decided to cooperate at the behest of Trump.
“I came to my decision independently, based on the law and available facts. I was never directly or indirectly pressured by any Executive Branch official — including those who work at the White House or GSA — with regard to the substance or timing of my decision. To be clear, I did not receive any direction to delay my determination,” Murphy said in a letter and offered to work with Biden.
Yohannes Abraham, Biden transition’s Executive Director, welcomed the decision calling it “a needed step to begin tackling the challenges facing our nation, including getting the pandemic under control and our economy back on track.”
