US President Donald Trump was clearly overwhelmed by the grand welcome he got in India on Monday. He was so overwhelmed, that while he mentioned Hindi blockbluster Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and Sholay in his speech at the ‘Namaste Trump’ event at Motera cricket stadium in Ahmedbad, he did not write a word about Mahatma Gandhi in the visitors’ book at Sabarmati Ashram! Earlier, he had also lauded Ayushmann Khurrana’s latest release ‘Shubh Mangal Zyada Savdhaan’ and Bahubali.
In the book, he wrote, “To my great friend Prime Minister Modi. Thank you for this wonderful visit.” Of course netizens noticed this and immediately took to Twitter to compare his note with that of Barack Obama.
He received a thunderous applause as he began his speech with “Namaste,”
“India will always hold a very special place in our hearts,” he added.
He also had words of praise for Mr Modi: “Everybody loves him but I will tell you this, he is very tough. You are not just the pride of Gujarat, you are living proof that with hard work, Indians can accomplish anything they want.”
However, he struggled to pronounce several Indian words – from Ahmedabad, the city where he was speaking, to Swami Vivekananda. He also called the Vedas, “Vestas”.
His second stop was Taj Mahal in Agra where he received a colourful welcome, which included dancers dressed as peacocks and horses. The city underwent a facelift and beautification in just about 60 hours over five days. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath greeted them here. The US President and his wife Melania spent about an hour at the monument.
“Taj Mahal inspires awe, a timeless testament to the rich and diverse beauty of Indian culture! Thank you, India,” he wrote.
