Cuttack: A tuition teacher and his accomplice were arrested in Odisha’s Cuttack city on Sunday for allegedly extorting money in the name of D-brothers, the gangster siblings Sushant and Sushil Dhal Samanta .
Chauliaganj police have seized Rs 91,000 in cash, 2 motorcycles, one of which was stolen, and five mobile phones from them. They targeted businessmen in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Puri and Dhenkanal, sources said.
“A complaint was registered on October 23 against unknown persons who allegedly demanded protection money from a businessman at Chatra Bazaar by threatening him. They have been arrested and will be forwarded to court today,” Additional DCP, Cuttack, Anil Mishra told the media.
The accused had extorted Rs 1 lakh from a persons in Dhenkanal in a similar fashion, he added.
Sources identified the tuition teacher as Dilip Das, a resident of Dhenkanal, and his accomplice as a resident of Cuttack.
