Koraput: Turmeric of Laxmipur in Koraput district will be soon supplied to New Delhi.
The Forest Department took a decision in this regard because of the meagre profit margin here. “Turmeric is sold here at a price ranging from Rs 70 to Rs 80 and the farmer not earning much profit from it,” informed Koraput DFO P Purnima.
Preparations for transporting turmeric to New Delhi has begun. “The department has taken the initiative to procure turmeric from farmers and supply it to the companies directly. We have contacted with a few companies in New Delhi and they have agreed to buy turmeric by observing its quality,” she further said.
If turmeric is supplied to New Delhi then the farmers will get earn about Rs 110 per kg. Around 20 tonnes of turmeric will be supplied to New Delhi in the first phase, she added.
