Mumbai: Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s ‘War 2’ made a decent start at the box office, but is unable to keep the audience hooked because of its weak script and clash with the Rajinikanth-starrer ‘Coolie’.
Adding to its woes is its weak PR strategy, which is being criticised by netizens for trying to turn the negative reviews into positive ones.
Taking to its official Instagram handle on Thursday, Yash Raj Films shared a few reviews of the film and one of them was from noted trade analyst and critic Taran Adarsh.
The review shared by YRF read, “Has star power, scale, style, stunts – Taran Adarsh,” implying that Taran has given a thumbs up to the film.
However, some Reddit users were quick to point out that Taran have a 1.5-star rating to ‘War 2’.
“War 2 team posted review of Taran Adarsh, but I think there is a mistake,” wrote one person.
The next slide on Reddit showed Taran’s original review, which he had posted on his X handle.
“Disappointing. Weakest film in the YRF Spy Universe… Has star power, scale, style, stunts – but lacks soul… Writing is the biggest culprit here. Not even Hrithik Roshan or Jr NTR can save this royal mess,” it read.
Pointing out how YRF’s graphic conveniently changed a negative review into positive, Redditors started trolling the ‘War 2’ makers.
“Turning 00s into 100s. give the intern a raise,” quipped one user.
Another user joked, “Gotta learn this and use during my yearly performance reviews.”
One comment read, “Gotta admire the sense of optimism.”
Another person mocked, “They really went to the ocean to extract some salt.”
‘War 2’ collected ₹52.50 crore net in India on its opening day.
The HT review of the film read: “You know that feeling when you finally splurge on that fancy meal you have been craving, only to realise halfway through you do not even like it? That is War 2.”
The film is the sixth instalment in the YRF spy universe, and a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster ‘War’, starring Hrithik and Tiger Shroff. The film was released in theatres on August 14.
