Tusker Electrocuted In Odisha’s Angul

Angul: A tusker was electrocuted after falling into a trap set up by poachers at Jagannathpur under Pampasar range of Satkosia wildlife sanctuary in Odisha’s Angul district, Regional Chief Conservator of Forest (RCCF) Joga Nanda informed on Saturday.

The electric trap was allegedly laid in the forest for wild boars.

Locals spotted the carcass of the elephant and informed the forest department. On being informed, Satkosia Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Saroj Panda arrived at the spot along with a team.

The actual cause of death of the tusker will be known from the postmortem report. A manhunt has been launched to apprehend the poachers who laid the trap.

Forest officials have detained some people in the range office and are questioning them.

A large number of elephants have been killed for various reasons under the Satkosia forest division in recent months.

Two female elephants were electrocuted after coming in contact with a live wire inside Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Judia under Keonjhar Sadar range in the early hours of Thursday.
