Angul: The carcass of a wild tusker was found near a village, barely a kilometer from Jarapada forest department office in Odisha’s Angul district on Saturday.
According to reports, residents of nearby villages spotted the body of the elephant lying close to a forest. The locals then informed the forest officials regarding the carcass.
On being informed, forest department officials rushed to the site and launched a probe to ascertain the circumstances that could have led to the death of the wild animal.
While locals claimed that the tusker died after being electrocuted, forest officials were yet to confirm the reason.
