Dhenkanal/Keonjhar: A tusker trampled an elderly man to death at Babandha village under Hindol range in Dhenkanal district on Tuesday.
According to reports, the wild elephant dragged the victim out of his house. When he tried to flee, the animal smashed him to the ground with its trunk and crushed him to death.
Police and forest officials rushed to the spot after getting information about the incident.
In a separate incident, two herds of 53 elephants strayed into human settlements at Sarei and Mukundpur under Champua range in Keonjhar district and destroyed a number of houses, agricultural fields and standing crops.
