Keonjhar: Panic gripped locals of Kalamanga village under Koida range in Keonjhar district after a wild elephant crushed an elderly man to death on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Damodar Nayak. The incident took place when he was pedaling back home. The wild elephant attacked Nayak and threw him away with the cycle.
Damodar was rushed to Keonjhar district headquarters hospital in a critical condition. Doctor there, however, declared him dead.
In yet another case of man-animal conflict in Keonjhar district, an elderly woman was trampled to death by a tusker in Sadar forest range of Keonjhar district on September 26.
Panic gripped the area after the 60-year-old woman got killed in the tusker attack.
On getting information, the Forest Department staff rushed to the spot and drove away the tusker into Jadipada forest.
There has been an increase in wild animal attacks in Keonjhar which have proved fatal for many people. The locals have also been demanding life security and compensation for crop loss and damage to houses in such cases.
