Odisha’s Producer Tutu Nayak Granted Bail In Journalist ‘Slap’ Case; To Walk Free After 5 Days

Bhubaneswar: Ollywood producer Sanjay Nayak aka Tutu Nayak will be able to walk free from jail after 5 days with the SDJM court, Bhubaneswar, granting him conditional bail on Wednesday.

He was arrested on November 4 for allegedly misbehaving with a female journalist while she was covering the release of a new film ‘Pratha’ at Sriya-Swati Talkies in the city.

According to sources, Nayak was granted bail on a surety of Rs 50,000 and a guarantor. The court had earlier deferred the bail plea hearing, seeking an updated case diary and old record of Nayak.

Journalist Debasmita Rout had accused him of slapping her in full public view on November 3. The producer, who was already in the midst of a controversy over a ban on an actor, was arrested the following day on the basis of her complaint lodged with Kharavela Nagar police. Nayak was booked under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 294 (use of obscene words) and 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the IPC.
