Cuttack: Popular TV actor Nikita fell off the terrace of her house during a scuffle with her husband Lipan Sahu after a heated argument, the latter confessed to police after a series of interrogation spanning over several hours which ended with his arrest on Monday evening.
“Nikita and Lipan had a heated exchange of words when the latter visited her at Mahanadi Vihar. They then went to the terrace of the house. Though her husband denied having pushed her, there was a scuffle between them. Other family members were present in the house and they were alone on the terrace when this occurred,” said Cuttack DCP Akhileshwar Singh.
The DCP said that the couple tied the knot in 2016. Four months into the marriage, they started living separately following problems between Nikita and her mother-in-law. Following the premature birth of their son, she had moved to her parents’ place, he said.
On the fateful Friday evening, the couple had an argument over Lipan staying with her at Mahanadi Vihar over the weekend as decided by them earlier, Singh added.
Lipan has been arrested and he will be forwarded to court on Tuesday, he said, adding that Nikita’s in-laws have also been detained for interrogation on the basis of a complaint accusing them of physically and mentally harassing her.
The actor, who gained popularity with teleserials ‘Tapasya and ACP Nikita’, had died on Saturday morning while undergoing treatment at a private hospital here.
