TV Actor Nikita’s Death: Absconding In-Laws Move HC For Anticipatory Bail

Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police are on the hunt for the absconding in-laws of TV actor Nikita, who fell to her death here recently.

While the actor’s husband Lipan Sahu has been arrested and sent to judicial custody in connection with her mysterious death, her in-laws have moved the Orissa High Court for anticipatory bail.

Since the police have registered a case under Sections 498 (a) and 120 (b) against Nikita’s father-in-law Lingaraj Sahu and the mother-in-law Kuntala Sahu, they can be arrested anytime.

Notably, the Commissionerate Police had served notice to Lipan’s parents on January 8 to appear in the police station, but they had not till January 9.

“We suspect that the couple has absconded in fear of arrest. A special team has been formed to trace them. They would be brought to the police station for interrogation,” Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh told mediapersons here.

On the other hand, Lipan’s counsel Bidyadhar Pradhan informed that he has filed for anticipatory bail petition before the High Court on behalf of Bidyadhar Sahu and Kuntala Sahu.

Maintaining that the allegations of criminal conspiracy and dowry torture brought against the couple are false and baseless, he said he will file an appeal before the court of the Sessions Judge on Thursday to grant bail to Lipan.

The Commissionerate Police on Wednesday had received the postmortem report, which revealed that Nikita died after falling from a height and receiving grievous injuries on her head and chest.
