New Delhi: Gurugram Police have arrested editor of a Hindi news channel for his alleged inflammatory posts, pertaining to communal violence in Nuh and other districts of Haryana.
The arrested has been identified as Mukesh Kumar. He is the resident editor of Sudarshan News.
Following the channel’s initial claim that Kumar had been “kidnapped”, Gurugram Police issued a clarification stating that he was in the custody of Cyber Crime division, NDTV reported.
In a tweet, Kumar had accused Gurugram Police of having acted against ‘Hindu activists’ under pressure from Al Jazeera news channel. He mentioned about repeated calls to Gurugram Police Commissioner Kala Ramachandran from the Qatar-based media channel.
Gurugram Police dismissed his post as “baseless, false, and misleading” and registered a case against him under relevant sections of the IT Act, the report further said.
Sudarshan News has called his arrest as totally illegal and wrong. “Why didn’t the police arrest Mukesh Kumar in uniform? Is the Haryana government bowing down to the ego of an officer? Where are the organisations of journalists and human rights?” questioned Sudarshan News’ editor-in-chief Suresh Chavhanke.
He also warned Gurugram Police that he would make a “big announcement” if they did not release Kumar.
The clash that broke out in Nuh during a Vishva Hindu Parishad procession on July 31 claimed six lives. The dead included two home guards and a cleric.
