Chennai: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor Vijay briefly lost his footing and fell at Chennai Airport late Sunday night after being surrounded by a large gathering of fans upon his return from Malaysia.
The incident occurred as Vijay, who attended the audio launch of his upcoming film Jana Nayagan in Kuala Lumpur on Dec. 27, was making his way through the crowd and trying to enter his car at the airport. In the moments before he was helped into the vehicle, the surge of well-wishers reportedly caused him to trip and fall.
Security personnel quickly intervened, lifting Vijay and ensuring he was safely escorte
d into his vehicle. There were no reports of any injury to him following the fall, and the situation was brought under control within seconds.
Vijay’s visit to Malaysia was part of the Jana Nayagan audio launch event, held at Bukit Jalil Stadium. The programme reportedly drew nearly 1 lakh fans and was recognised for its exceptionally large audience, marking one of the biggest Tamil diaspora gatherings in the region.
In remarks made during the event, the actor-politician spoke emotionally about his connection with his supporters, stating that he would “give up cinema” to stand for those who built him up, using the Tamil symbol of a kottai — akin to a fort — as a metaphor for the support he received.
The Jana Nayagan film, directed by H. Vinoth and featuring a prominent ensemble cast, is slated for release in early 2026.
Visuals and clips of the airport fall have gone viral on social media, sparking discussions online about crowd management and the intensity of fan enthusiasm during such public appearances
