Twin Blasts Outside Defence Establishments In Amritsar & Jalandhar Trigger Security Alarm

Jalandhar: Panic gripped parts of Punjab after two blast-like incidents were reported within a span of two hours near defence establishments, raising fresh concerns over security in the sensitive border state.

The first explosion took place near the cantonment area in Amritsar. According to officials, the blast occurred in Khasa, close to the military zone, prompting an immediate response from police and security agencies. Bomb Disposal Squad teams were rushed to the spot, and the area was cordoned off. No casualties were reported in the incident.

Shortly after, another explosion was reported outside the Border Security Force (BSF) headquarters i

n Jalandhar. The blast occurred in a scooter parked near the premises, sparking alarm in the area. Authorities said the incident happened in a crowded zone, further heightening concerns over public safety.

“Prima facie, the facts are that an Activa (scooter) parked here (Jalandhar) caught fire. We are still verifying the facts on the ground,” Jalandhar Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur told NDTV.

The near-simultaneous nature of the incidents has led to heightened vigilance across Punjab. Security agencies have launched investigations into both blasts to determine whether they were linked and to identify those responsible. Initial responses included deployment of forensic teams and tightening of security around key installations.

Officials have not yet confirmed the exact nature of the explosions, and probe agencies are examining whether explosive devices were used or if the incidents were accidental. The proximity of the blasts to defence-related sites has, however, amplified concerns about potential threats to national security.
