Twist In Balangir Death: Family Blames Wife’s Phone Assault, Autopsy Report Cites Liver Failure

Balangir: A domestic dispute took an unexpectedly fatal turn in Odisha’s Balangir district after a man died following an alleged assault by his wife using a mobile phone.

The deceased has been identified as Swapneswar Mishra, a resident of the Chimnibhati Pada area. The incident occurred under Balangir Town police limits.

According to sources, Anamika Satpathy repeatedly struck him on the head with a mobile phone during a heated argument at their residence on June 21, inflicting severe injuries. Mishra

was immediately rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Balangir. After receiving initial treatment, his condition showed signs of improvement, and doctors subsequently discharged him and he return home.

However, the relief was short-lived. Mishra’s health began to rapidly deteriorate on Saturday and he died while being rushed to a private hospital. Following his demise, the deceased’s father lodged a formal complaint at the local Laxmijore police station, blaming his daughter-in-law for the death and demanding a rigorous probe.

However, preliminary postmortem findings suggested no external injuries. “The doctor confirmed that the death was due to liver failure caused by excessive alcohol consumption. The detailed postmortem report will be submitted tomorrow,” Laxmijore police station IIC Sanjay Kumar Sahoo told TOI.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case based on the Medico-Legal Certificate (MLC) and a complaint lodged by the family. An investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events, leading to his death. Family members and other persons concerned are being questioned over the alleged argument.
