Twist In Delhi Acid Attack: Did Female Student’s Dad Plot Incident To Frame Accused?

Twist in Delhi acid attack case

New Delhi: An incident of a second-year Delhi University student being the target of an acid attack near Lakshmibai College sent shockwaves through the national Capital on Sunday.

However, there was a sensational twist in the case on Monday. The 20-year-old female student’s father confessed to plotting the attack to frame Jitender, the main accused. What is even more shocking is that the survivor herself brought the acid, India Today TV reported quoting sources.

Police had said a day earlier that Jitender, who was accompanied by two associates, allegedly threw acid at the student near the women’s college in Ashok Vihar before fleeing the scene.

During questioning, the survivor’s father Aqeel said that he decided to frame Jitender, whose wife filed a rape case against him.

Aqeel’s daughter, a second year BCom student, brought some acid, used to clean toilets, for the ‘planned’ attack.

Not only Jitender, Aqeel also had disputes with his aides Ishan and Arman, who were named in the FIR.

Too many discrepancies in student’s account

The confession followed reports of multiple discrepancies in the account of the ‘victim’.

Cops probing the incident found out that Jitender’s location at the time of the alleged attack was in Karol Bagh, several kilometres from the crime spot.

“His call detail records and CCTV footage show that both Jitender and his wife were in Karol Bagh during the time of the alleged attack,” a police officer told PTI. The motorcycle in which the accused trio allegedly travelled in was also traced to the same area.

NDTV quoted police sources as saying they had not found any evidence suggesting an acid attack had taken place. No traces of acid were detected at the spot, and

No CCTV footage was found showing three men on a motorcycle near the location, as the student had claimed. No acid bottle was also recovered by the Forensic Science Laboratory team that visited the area as part of the investigation.

According to the student, she had gone to Lakshmibai College for an extra class when the incident occurred around 10 am. As she was walking towards the college, Jitender, accompanied by Ishan and Arman, arrived on a motorcycle, police said.

“Ishan handed over a bottle to Arman, who threw acid on her,” the police statement said. The student managed to shield her face but sustained burns on both hands.
